About the Birth Center

Welcome to Bay Area Community Birth Center!

If you’re new to our website, you’re probably considering the care of a Houston Area Midwife for your pregnancy, birth, or well-woman visits. Whatever the reason, we’re honored by your visit and would welcome the opportunity to provide personal, comprehensive care centered on you.

Why a birth center?

Having your baby at a licensed birth center is one of the best decisions a mother can make. Simply put, it gives you a much higher chance of having a normal birth and avoiding an unnecessary c-section. Why is this? Unlike hospitals, a birth center designed solely for the purpose of child birth—keeping your birth and your baby at the heart of the experience, rather than focusing on convenient timetables and interventions.

Why Bay Area Community Birth Center?

There are several reasons why women choose Bay Area Community Birth Center:

  • We believe a woman should experience the miracle of birth in a calm, soothing, and natural setting and providing women with one on one care. (See more about our philosophy.)
  • Our midwives are licensed to deliver babies for normal, healthy women—here at the Birth Center or for home births.
  • We are just six blocks (three minutes) from Bayshore Hospital.
  • Our facility was designed to provide the comforts and setting of home for a relaxing, personal experience while under the supervision of trained and experienced midwives. While attending your appointments at our birth center, you’ll get more familiar with our staff and building, relieving the anxiety and fear of having your child in an unfamiliar place with unknown personnel.
  • We’re advocates for breastfeeding – within minutes of birth.

Our story

In 2005 Jackie Griggs opened Bay Area Birth Center to give more women and babies the opportunity for natural birth—at the same time providing a centralized location for natural birth services, home birth services, and well-woman care all under the supervision of midwives.

We welcomed the first baby born at the Birth Center in February 2006. Since then, lots more have followed, with about half of the babies being born at home and the other half born at our Birth Center.

April 2018 Jackie sold the Birth Center to Stephanie.  Bay Area Birth Center became Bay Area Community Birth Center.  Even with a new owner the original intent, mission and philosophy remains the the same

The care we provide reflects our philosophy of birth, health care, and empowering life experiences. We invite you to explore our birth services and well woman care, then contact us to schedule a complimentary consultation and tour.
